The Interministerial Committee for Religious Buildings No Longer Exists
by Eliezer Rauchberger

Following the government's decision to dismantle the Religious Affairs Ministry, the interministerial committee formerly in charge of religious buildings has ceased to exist, Minister Gidon Ezra told the Knesset plenum in response to a question by MK Rabbi Avrohom Ravitz.

The interministerial committee was comprised of ministers from the Ministries of Religious Affairs, Housing and the Interior and provided funding for the construction of religious buildings around the country, such as botei knesses and mikva'os.

Minister Ezra said the matter of developing religious buildings has been transferred to the Housing Ministry.

In response to another question by Rabbi Ravitz regarding plans for the construction of religious buildings in 2004, Minister Ezra said the professional committee handling the issue met not long ago to prepare criteria based on needs and budget restrictions for this year.
