Bolstering Efforts to Prevent Sale of Orloh
by G. Kleiman

Rabbonim and heads of the Institute for the Study of Torah- Based Agriculture held a meeting at Yad Binyamin with Agricultural Minister Mr. Yisrael Katz and high-ranking ministry officials in attendance, to suggest and discuss ways of assisting the Institute as well as the Beis Midrash LeHalacha BeHisyashvus and Midrashas Haaretz Umitzvoseiho, which serve as the main sources for halachic scholarship and scientific guidance in Torah-based farming.

Discussions centered on goals and achievements in the comprehensive efforts to prevent the sale of orloh, plans to expand these activities in the future and initial preparations for the evaluation of goals and joint activities to promote shmittah observance in all sectors of the population.

Speaking for the Institute, HaRav Yosef Efrati laid forth its objectives and missions, both past and future, such as preventing the sale of orloh, preparing for the shmittah year and helping produce sellers and wholesalers, both collectively and individually, avoid stumbling blocks in mitzvos tied to Eretz Yisroel. He also expressed his hopes for the farming establishment's continued cooperation in working to meet the needs of observant farmers and consumers. Afterwards HaRav Efrati spoke in detail about the importance of the holy work performed by the Institute, saying, "Our existence in Eretz Yisroel is solely in the merit of upholding the mitzvos tied to the Land according to halochoh."
