Ruth Devorah Grangewood, o"h

On erev Yom Kippur after midday, Mrs. Ruth Devorah Grangewood
o"h passed away at the age of 68 following a year of
physical suffering, a trial she accepted with love. Although
her levaya was held shortly before Yom Kippur while
most people were eating their seuda mafsekes, many
Bayit Vegan and other Jerusalem residents made a special
effort to take part.
Born into the Adler family of Germany her father, R' Avrohom,
a doctor, attended to gedolei Yisroel. He was summoned
to take care of Rav Yeruchom, the mashgiach of Yeshivas Mir,
during his final days. Every Wednesday night he would study
with HaRav Dessler, who would travel from Gateshead to London
to learn with him.
She lost her father at the age of nine, but her father's
devotion to this learning session left a lasting impression
on her that transformed into ahavas haTorah. Her
ambition was to move to Eretz Yisroel to raise a family for a
life of Torah and in 5729 (1969) she moved to Eretz Yisroel
with her husband, leaving behind a warm and financially
supportive family.
She made every woman feel like a close friend and she would
give everything she had--her heart, her time and her energy.
Her doors were always open and she would make her home
available to others whenever she went away. She would pray
three times per day, recite chapters of Tehillim and
studied parshas hashovua every week. Around
Rosh Hashana of last year she was struck by an illness, but
she still attended all of the tefillos in Beis Knesses
HaGra. During the break she did not go down to hear
Kiddush for fear she might not have the strength the
mount the stairs afterwards.
She returned her pure soul to her Maker after performing
kaporos. Mrs. Ruth Devorah Grangewood o"h is
survived by her husband, her brothers R' Shlomo, R' Eliyohu
and R' Meir, her sister Mrs. Levi of London, her sons and
sons-in-law, who are marbitzei Torah, as well as her
daughters and daughters-in-law.
