Following Meeting with PM Rabbi Moshe Gafni Says Actions
Speak Louder Than Words
By Betzalel Kahn
"We must not make the mistake of deluding ourselves into
thinking the Prime Minister has suddenly changed his
stripes," Degel HaTorah Director MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni told
the press following a meeting between United Torah Jewry and
the Prime Minister during which Ariel Sharon pledged to renew
positive ties with the party.
"He was aware of everything done to the Torah world, chareidi
education and the Jewish character of the country and carries
the responsibility for this," said Rabbi Gafni. "We will not
be enticed and will not be misled by his remarks, as nice as
they may have been. He will be embraced or rebuffed according
to his deeds.
"Obviously the question of bringing UTJ into the coalition is
not under discussion. The only thing is that the chareidi
public is [comprised of] state citizens and the government
must provide them full services just like other citizens,
even if UTJ is in the opposition."
