The Jerusalem branch of Degel Hatorah has begun preparations
for the municipal elections scheduled to take place at the
beginning of Sivan.
At a meeting last week, Degel Hatorah's Jerusalem
administration discussed a number of issues connected to
election preparations, particularly in light of the fact that
general elections were held very recently. Great emphasis was
placed on deep analysis of the campaign and election results
in order to maximize the party's performance in the municipal
elections.
One important strategic point applies to the many couples
that have relocated to Jerusalem, particularly young couples
who are not quick to update their official residence address,
but would otherwise be eligible to vote in Jerusalem.
Central Election Committee Member Rabbi Avrohom Weber notes
that now is the time to update addresses in the voter
booklets to avoid missing the cutoff deadline. Address
changes can be done at local post offices without having to
report to the offices Interior Ministry.
Rabbi Weber also said since citizens age 17 and over will be
eligible to vote in the municipal elections (i.e. those born
by 3 Sivan 5746), potential young voters should be told to
obtain a national ID card--without which they will be
ineligible to vote--as soon as possible rather than waiting
until the last moment.
