Problematic Shemittah Wine
Letter to the Editor
I am writing to bring to the public's attention and remind it-
-particularly following Purim--to take note of the bottles of
wine received in the mishloach manos. Personally I
received several bottles of wine with a Badatz Eida Chareidis
hechsher including the words "yivul nochri" in
small print. Some just say "yivul n." Unfortunately
one of these bottles was also opened through a lack of
attentiveness.
As is known, according to the Chazon Ish zt'l, this
wine has kedushas shevi'is and must be destroyed
because the time of biyur has passed and therefore it
is ossur behano'oh.
Velemazhir velanizhar shlomim tein kemei nohor.

Editor's Note: We have also received reports of wine that
was prepared for export to America with an English label that
says on it: "N. Harvest." The meaning of this is also that it
was grown during shevi'is by non-Jews. According to
the Chazon Ish, such wine has kedushas
shevi'is.
