CER Bolsters Russian Education
by Eliezer Rauchberger
A new force for Jewish education in Russia was formally
established in Tula by the Conference of European Rabbis
(CER) in conjunction with the Ronald Lauder Foundation.
Rabbis and kindergarten heads met to create and plan the
"Lauder Community Kindergarten's Russia Network." The motto
of this new body is "Jewish Education for Jewish Children."
The kindergartens intend to implement a uniform set of plans
for quality of Jewish education, supervised kosher food,
halachically Jewish children and more.
The four kindergartens in Tula, Samara, Perm and Kaliningrad,
work closely with their local rabbis all of whom are active
members of the CER and participants in the CER 10 Cities
projects, an initiative that has placed 10 Rabbis in 10
cities in Russia, assisting them with their community's
growth.
The CER, which was closely involved in the planning of the
Tula seminar and underwrote the participation of the rabbis,
has indicated that it is envisaged, where possible, to extend
in the near future the current educational facilities to
primary school level.
