Kol Torah Alumni Can Return To Jerusalem For Chanukas Habayis
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

The yeshiva world will be witness to a unique, electrically- charged four-day event in Bayit Vegan (Thursday-Monday, June 12-16), when Yeshivas Kol Torah launches a "ruchniyus reconnect" with alumni from all over the world in order to dedicate a new building that is the centerpiece of the yeshiva's expansion plans.

Yeshivas Kol Torah, which was the first Torah institution transported from Germany to Israel, was founded by the revered sage HaRav Michel Schlesinger zt'l in 1939 together with Dayan HaRav Boruch Kundstaat. It has garnered an impeccable reputation for molding young lamdonim from all over the world into bnei Torah. Yeshiva bochurim from the USA, UK, Australia, Holland, South Africa, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland and Canada come to Kol Torah for their years of primary spiritual growth.

Through the last half-century, thousands of inquisitive young boys thirsting for Torah knowledge have sat in Kol Torah's bustling beis medrash, where they were taught by rabbonim who truly cared about each and every potential ben Torah led by R' Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, who dedicated himself to the thousands of talmidim in the yeshiva (as mentioned on his matzeivoh: "He'emid talmidim harbeih beyeshivas Kol Torah"). Throughout the years, Yeshivas Kol Torah has produced some of the Torah world's foremost rabbis, askonim and bnei Torah.

Many of the alumni have always wanted to give something back to their yeshiva. Thus, the Kol Torah International Homecoming & Chanukas Habayis was spawned by the yeshiva's International Alumni Committee. "This is the first time that the yeshiva has planned an event that will have former talmidim reconnect with their yeshiva, with their rebbes, with their chavrusas, which is a unique event for the Torah world in general," said Rabbi Sruli Safran, the campaign manager of Kol Torah's international alumni committee. "In past years, we had the typical melave malka or dinner in the USA to raise funds. This effort is a real homecoming -- a chadesh yomeinu kekedem -- a chance for the talmidim to reexperience their fruitful learning years. The yeshiva helped these youngsters to become real bnei Torah, so the yeshiva is now saying to them, `Now that we've helped you grow, help us grow.'

"Kol Torah always had a sense of spiritual energy. As the youngsters who came to learn in Israel found out, the general environment of being in Jerusalem with its immense spiritual energy, permeated and impacted on them. The thrust of what was accomplished at Kol Torah on a learning scale, could never be done anywhere else in the world."

When the international alumni arrive in Eretz Hakodesh, they will see a sparkling new Beis Medrash on a newly expanded campus, housing 800 bochurim. These bochurim will be partaking of the yeshiva's various learning programs from high school through an intensive post high school beis medrash regimen, where the Torah world's new leaders are molded.

The four-day event will feature an awe-inspiring tour of the Kotel Tunnels, a spiritually energizing Shabbos schedule, the gala International Alumni Dinner with musical entertainment, as well as the magnificent dedication -- Chanukas Habayis -- of the new Kol Torah Beis Medrash on 15 Sivan.

A prominent list of Kol Torah's rabbonim will provide sichot and shiurim throughout the various events (Shabbos, Melave Malka, Dinner, Chanukas Habayis) including: HaRav B. S. Deutsch, rosh yeshiva, HaRav A. Erlanger, author of Bircas Avrohom, HaRav S. Povarsky and more.
