Solution to Problem of Kohanim on Flights Imminent
by Betzalel Kahn

The problems of the flights for kohanim who take off from the Ben Gurion airport will soon be solved according to those involved in the negotiations. Rabbi Ravitz, Rabbi Gafni and Rabbi Porush recently conducted extensive deliberations with the Transportation Ministry and top raking IDF personnel on the issue.

A few months ago it was learned that planes from Ben Gurion pass over the cemetery in Cholon, thereby causing a problem for kohanim on board. The chareidi MKs tried to persuade officials in the Transportation Ministry to change the course of the planes, however their efforts were marked by difficulties since it is very hard to change these courses.

This past Friday (Kislev 15) the chareidi MKs met with the representatives of the Transportation Ministry, as well as with the Civil Aeronautics Administration and the Air Force. During the meeting it became clear that many efforts to change the course in order to enable kohanim to fly without abroad were being made. However, the change of the course is difficult and requires coordination between many elements, especially military needs.

After the meeting on Friday it was announced that the problem would be solved within a short period of time.
