25th Anniversary of Yad Sarah -- Tuesday 20 Shvat
by Betzalel Kahn
A series of events in honor of the 25th anniversary of the
Yad Sarah organization was launched this week under the
slogan of "Volunteering and Continuing." More than 1200
volunteers from 31 branches of the organization in Jerusalem
and its environs participated in the annual volunteers'
convention.
In his words of greeting, the chairman of Yad Sarah, Rabbi
Uri Lapolianski said: "The future of Israeli society isn't
imbedded in the results of the elections, but rather in the
its spirit of volunteerism and mutual aid. Only a nation
which knows how to give -- and not only how to receive --
can survive and even develop."
Throughout the evening, medals were distributed to the
outstanding volunteers who have been assisting Yad Sarah for
the past twenty years. The volunteers' convention in
Jerusalem was the largest regional one of that sort Yad
Sarah has ever celebrated. This past year, Yad Sarah helped
325,000 people in Israel in its 88 branches throughout the
country.
