Memorial Service in Netivot
by B. Rabinowitz

A ceremony in memory of Gabi Azguri, Hy"d, who was murdered two weeks ago by Arab terrorists, was held at the Negev Kissufim intersection. HaRav Yissochor Meir, the rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Hanegev, spoke at the service, which was attended by a large crowd.

After comforting the family, HaRav Meir focused on the current difficult security situation and the many victims who have fallen as a result. He said: "We mustn't feel that we have any power or might with which to confront the enemies who seek to kill us, Rachmono litzlan. Let us not be swept up be false illusions that we will win with the use of force."

He then stressed that every individual must recognize the Source of our military power, and realize that power to oppose our enemies comes only from the Torah and our belief in the Creator. This power, he said, must be strengthened. "During the wars and throughout all the difficult periods in our history, it was the spiritual power of the Nation only that stood in our stead: our inner faith in Hakodosh Boruch Hu."

HaRav Meir added that during the terrible Nazi Holocaust, the Jews stood in front of the gas chambers and sang: "We will defeat them, Ribono shel Olom." Such was their strong faith, and such faith must be strengthened, because every Jew, deep inside, surely believes. It is only that [others] try to deflect him from his faith. "Whoever speaks about a secular revolution is doing so insincerely, only for personal needs. In truth, he knows and believes, and expresses his belief in difficult times. We must strengthen the power of the Torah and of belief in the Creator of the World and we will surely win, and Hakodosh Boruch Hu will say `enough,' and will we shortly merit the coming of the Moshiach tzidkeinu and Techiyas Hameisim.
