Hesped Rally in Memory of HaRav Shlomo Zalman Zilberman
zt"l
by S. Bruchi
Thousands of Bnei Brak residents participated in a
hesped and his'orerus rally on 20 Adar marking
the end of the shiva over the petirah of HaRav
Shlomo Zalman Zilberman, zt"l. HaRav Shlomo Zalman
was a ram in the Nachlas Dovid yeshiva ketana. He was
niftar suddenly on Purim night in the yeshiva, going
directly to the yeshiva shel ma'aloh. Forty-four
years old at the time of his petirah, he left behind
twelve orphans, the youngest only four months old.
The neighborhood moro de'asra, HaRav Shlomo Zalman
Ullman, opened the rally, held in the central shul of the
Bnei Brak Kehillos Yaakov neighborhood. He noted: "This
terrible catastrophe in the neighborhood obligates each and
everyone of its residents to do teshuva. I asked one
of the gedolei hador in what areas should we
strengthen ourselves. The first thing he asked me was, `How
is the bein odom lechavero in the neighborhood?' We
all know that the niftar was a model of outstanding
interpersonal relations. We must strengthen ourselves in
this area." HaRav Ullman also spoke about the importance of
strengthening ourselves in tefilloh, particularly by
reciting omein yehei Shemei rabboh with intent and by
feeling that we are standing before the King when we
pray.
HaRav Mann, a ram in Ohr Yisroel, explained in the
name of his father, zt"l, that one enters a home
through the door, not through a window. "Why, then, does the
novi say: `Death has risen up in our windows?'" he
asked. He explained: "There are two types of death: the
death of, `a generation goes and a generation comes, and in
the end all men die.' That is death that comes thorough the
door: natural death. But there is also `death through the
window,' which is unnatural. It is in reference to this type
of death that the novi calls out, `Death has risen in
our windows.' When such a death occurs, the entire
chaburo must tremble and be worried. Chazal say, `All
who find favor in the eyes of people also find favor in the
eyes of the Mokom.' The niftar was kind to
everyone. No one has complaints against him. Where do such
attributes stem from? From avodas hamiddos. The
niftar was blessed with a unique ahavas
habriyos that included love for each and every one of
the students of the yeshiva. He showered this love with a
smile that never left his face. The fact that he was
niftar on Purim, when we send shaloch monos to
each other, obligates us to strengthen ourselves in the
mitzvos of bein odom lechavero.
At the end of the rally, the community was asked to help the
twelve orphans by contributing generously to Keren Yesomei
Shlomo. Contributions may be deposited in the Poalei Agudas
Yisroel Bank, branch 188, account number 377- 082, or
forwarded by means of Kupat Hair, telephone 1800-39-47-47,
or sent to POB 49 in Bnei Brak, noting that the contribution
is for Keren Yisomei Shlomo.
