The following statement was issued by the Moetzes Gedolei
Torah of the Agudath Israel of America:
A Heartfelt Call
Our brethren in the Holy Land are in a terrible crisis. Our
enemies who claim the Jewish homeland for themselves have now
risen in conspiracy to spill Jewish blood like water. It is
thus incumbent on us to arouse Divine Mercy during these Days
of Mercy and pour forth our words of supplication before
Hashem that no harm befall His children.
We must all come to full recognition that the physical
security of our people is based on the well-being of the
Jewish neshama. Heaven forfend that any steps be taken to
tamper with the sacred precincts of the Jewish People and the
houses of Torah study in the land Hashem has chosen as His
dwelling place.
We beseech our Heavenly Father to have mercy on the remnants
of His people; may we merit to return to Him with sincerity
and a complete heart. "Guardian of Israel, protect the
remnant of Israel; let not Israel be destroyed -- those who
proclaim `Shma Yisroel -- Hear O Israel.'"
With longing for salvation, and with blessings for a gmar
chasima tova.
