Diaspora Jewry Obligated to Assist Shmitta Observing Farmers
by A. Cohen

At the end of his current visit to Eretz Yisroel, HaRav Kreiswirth, the gaavad of Antwerp, has come out with a fervent call to the Jews of the Diaspora to rally to the aid of the thousands of shmitta observing farmers in Eretz Hakodesh who let their fields lie fallow during the seventh year with great mesiras nefesh. The Jews of the Diaspora have a special obligation during this critical time when the enemies and haters of Israel have raised their heads, he noted.

HaRav Kreiswirth spoke these words as he met with the board of directors of Keren Hashevi'is and the longstanding activist for chareidi Jewry in Eretz Yisroel, HaRav Alexander Heschel Reisman (who has published important Torah works in halocho and aggodo). He also met with additional members of the Keren Hashevi'is, including HaRav Shmuel Mordechai Mintz.

HaRav Kreiswirth said that as soon as he returns to Belgium, he will make all-out efforts to spread dvar hashmitta among Belgian Jewry, especially in the city of Antwerp were he is the moro de'asra. He will apprise them of the special obligation resting upon each Jew the world over to actively share the burden of the thousands of farmers who are not working their lands this year.

A special group of activists and heads of chareidi Jewry in Antwerp is currently planning a special fundraising rally on behalf of Keren Hashevi'is, to take place in a few weeks.
