New Genizah Bins Installed in Tel Aviv Area
by A. Cohen

The Chevra Kadisha of Tel Aviv and its environs has recently installed huge genizah bins throughout the Dan area. The bins are located in the square in front of the entrance to the Holon cemetery; in the parking lot in the Yarkon cemetery; and in front of the Chevra Kadisha main office on Rechov Mohilever in Tel Aviv.

The large-capacity bins have room for many types of sacred articles, including those requiring "genizah chamuro" according to halocho, such as mezuzas and tefillin. Inside the bins are special hooks on which bags containing particular types of religious articles and sacred books and writings may be hung. The hooks make it easier to place the bags in the bins in an appropriate manner.

The director of the Tel Aviv Chevra Kadisha, Yehoshua Yishai, said: "The Chevra Kadisha has been involved in the genizah of sacred articles for a long time. Currently, we have tried to improve this service and the sorting of the various types of articles placed in genizah. We feel that these bins accord the religious articles their due respect. Of course, we are happy to participate in this chesed shel emes, which also accords honor to the Torah."

The bins will be emptied by the General Genizah organization headed by Rabbi Eliezer Bodenheim. Members of this organization also attend to burial of the artifacts as prescribed by halocho.
