Stolen Sifrei Torah Found
by B. Rabinowitz

Jubilation resulted after the discovery of three sifrei Torah that had been stolen from the local synagogue two months ago in Moshav Yachini, near Shderot.

When men arrived at the synagogue one day for shacharis two months ago, they discovered that a break-in had occurred and that five sifrei Torah had been stolen. The worshipers noticed that the thieves had taken only kosher sifrei Torah, leaving behind the one sefer Torah that was posul. The startled members of the congregation called the police.

A few days ago, while on his way to school, Dotan Hindi, the seventeen-year- old son of one of the synagogue members, noticed three bags. Examining their content, he found the sifrei Torah. He quickly summoned the synagogue committee and within a short period of time many of the settlement residents assembled on the site. The great rejoicing over the finding of the sifrei Torah was mingled with sorrow, however, after it became apparent that two of the stolen scrolls are still missing. Settlement residents hope that the additional scrolls will eventually be returned and that the thieves, who apparently regretted their misdeed and returned three of the stolen sifrei Torah, will return the other two as well.
