The Egged bus corporation has informed Rabbi Yechiel
Turgeman, UTJ representative in the Jerusalem Municipality,
that it intends to link all of the chareidi neighborhoods to
the Kosel with improved bus service.
Rabbi Turgeman had asked Egged to arrange steady
transportation from Bayit Vegan to the Kosel. The number 2
bus line from the city's northern neighborhoods to the Kosel
has been operating for a number of years. New lines have been
instituted lately from the neighborhoods of Ramot, Neve
Yaakov and Ramat Shlomo.
In a letter from Rabbi Yitzchok Rodich, Egged's nationwide
coordinator for the chareidi public, to Rabbi Turgeman, Rabbi
Rodich said that from the point of view of Egged's Jerusalem
branch, the Kosel has top preference as far as the granting
of good service is concerned. "We will continue to work on
connecting the chareidi neighborhoods -- Bayit Vegan included
-- to the Kosel," the letter concluded.
