To The Editor:
I start off with words of appreciation, as we the readership
of Yated in South Africa gain tremendous benefit from it each
week.
However, I wish to comment on last week's article about our
community: "South African Jewish Community Dwindling".
Although we in our communities feel the negativity of the
wider community and are threatened by the instability of the
surrounding society as described in the article, there is
reason for us to be positive about our future. As the article
mentions, the local Torah world is vibrant and growing and
there is substantial free time, a relatively low cost of
living and a comfortable lifestyle to allow us plenty
opportunity to learn and be involved in mitzvos.
Perhaps if for that particular article, the emphasis was
changed and the headline read "Yiddishkeit, South African
Community's Hope For The Future", it would better reflect the
hashkofo of the Yated.
