An agreement has been made between the chairman of the
Finance Committee, Rabbi Avrohom Ravitz and the Health
Ministry to the effect that all medicine importers will be
required to insure the kashrus of their imports.
A new law, to be presented for Knesset approval, opens the
market for the free importation of medicines by the kupot
cholim as well as other importers. Until now, a limited
number of importers had exclusive rights in this market.
MK Rabbi Ravitz feared that opening the market in this manner
would result in kashrus problems, due to a lack of
suitable kashrus supervision of the medicines'
components. Therefore, before bringing this clause for
approval in the committee, he determined rigid laws for
guaranteeing their kashrus as well as compliance with
Health Ministry regulations.
