This is another food/craft recipe by Chani Kreisel (hoping
you've got your appetite back after consuming the Edible
Menora).
This healthy snack can compete with all of those sugar-
filled cakes and taste temptations at the next in-school
party or festive occasion. Curious adults can also partake.
Imagination unlimited.
Remove the shells from hard boiled eggs. Set out an array of
powdered spices such as pepper, paprika, cinnamon, cumin,
flaked coconut, parsley flakes, chocolate curls shaven with
potato peeler etc. in small saucers. Also set out raisins and
miniscule slivers of red pepper, green pepper and carrot
sticks.
Now for the fun part: roll each egg-person in spice powder to
create hair, red cheeks, a black kipa, beard etc.
Sometimes I add a cucumber slice or potato chip as a hat.
Children making their own egg-person can simulate their own
hair color, freckles etc.
Create a `face' on each egg by poking in raisins for eyes and
nose, red pepper slivers for a mouth or two lips. Poke in
short, tiny carrot sticks as arms and legs. You may use the
tip of a knife to gently push the features into the egg
surface.
Nestle each egg man/lady in a brightly colored egg carton
compartment. Tuck in with clear plastic wrap. Flip the carton
closed and you're ready to travel, or refrigerate until it's
time to eat. This was always my standard contribution to a
pot-luck children's party.
This is also an eggsactly excellent keep-busy project for
rainy days. Invite your children's friends over and make a
supper party out of it.
