Since we will have to forego our new column on Household
Management by Chaya Roizy Vorhand (tel. 02-6510025), we will
compensate by telling the readers about an interesting course
being offered for self help in sewing.
This is a Mending Course. In six fascinating lessons, it
teaches you all the tricks of repairing your family's
clothing to put new life and use into garments that could
still be serviceable if only: you knew how to fix zippers on
trousers, close slits with false pleats, lengthen or shorten
sleeves and boys' trousers, and do all those tasks with semi-
professionalism to add life to family clothing.
Each lesson is devoted to one particular area, with the final
one being open for hands-on questions in repair work. This
course has proven extremely popular in Bayit Vegan, where its
designer and teacher, Chaya Posen gives it. But Chaya, who
has gotten such enthusiastic response from the participants,
is eager to teach women in other neighborhoods, as well, and
is willing to come wherever a willing group of women can be
organized. She says that one sewing machine is sufficient,
even for all women to get a try at implementing her common-
sense tips and methods.
Chaya established and manages the Bayit Vegan clothing gemach
and has given sewing lessons for over a dozen years. But this
course is different - it is geared to practical women who do
not necessarily wish to learn how to sew new.
