Prime minister Netanyahu and Mair Chaviv in Paris
Deputy Minister of the Prime Minister's office and of Transportation, Rabbi Uri Maklev, spoke on Monday with Mr. Meir Chaviv, former member of the French parliament, after the French Legislative Council decided to halt the procedure of elections scheduled at the beginning of the week. Mr. Chaviv was 'accused' of the support of Israeli rabbis for his candidacy and that the French Jewish community voted on the claims of anti-Semitic persecution. This was in light of Chaviv's strong stand as a proud Jew in the French parliament.
Rabbi Maklev spoke with Mr. Chaviv, strengthened him and said that the whole world sees this overt persecution against him. "All of us here in Israel, and especially the Torah-observant public, are beholden to you for your strong support. Your actions in representing Jewry are commendable, in view of the fact that the Left attempts to arrest them. Do not be afraid of them. We here are all on your side."
Meir Chaviv thanked the deputy minister, Rabbi Maklev, for his strong support and the backing of the new government in his righteous battle for the fitting representation of Jews in the French parliament. In an interview with Yated Ne'eman which fervently supports him in his battle for the rights of European Jews, he said, "The Left is rejoicing today even though they have shut down the polls. We won. They seek to get rid of us because we support Israel."
