The Outgoing Government is Trying to Foment Rebellion

By Moshe Tzvi

A government has not yet been established in Israel and it seems that the left side of the political map has not yet internalized the election results. Over one million voters went to the polls merely a month ago and tipped the scales very noticeably in favor of a new government headed by Binyamin Netanyahu. The relevant parties making up the erstwhile coalition government have shared like views on issues stated by its leaders, clearly expressed on every political platform regarding state and religion. No one hid anything from the public that went to the polls and chose what they did, being well informed.

The shock that gripped the heads of the Left upon seeing the election results and realizing their import, changed lately into rabid incitement to the extreme of calling upon a civil rebellion against the new government. Even though this may not jibe with the legal definition of an insurgence, it is still definitely an uprising. Such vehement cries have not been heard in the political history of the State but a revolt, it definitely is. It is not difficult to surmise what the media et al could have reacted if this had been a response from the opposite side of the political map.

The media, which is predominantly Leftist, energizes the cries, not allowing the simple obvious facts to befuddle it. The people cast its voice very clearly and any outcry against it represents a minority opinion of the Israeli public.

Whoever thinks that this present provocation against the appointment of MK Maoz to one office or another is what bothers the politicians and media people who are up in arms against it, should take time out to scroll down no more than a week or two ago. Let them recall all of those statements against the government-in-formulation: budgets, offices, political figures and more, once against this party or yet another, with the prime purpose being to undermine the government's legitimacy even before it be established.

The outcry against the incoming government hails from those very politicians who lost in the elections not much long ago but refuses to accept the will of the people. One of them, MK Gadi Eizencot from the "Government Camp," calls to send a million people to protest in the streets. In a press interview he said, "If Netanyahu strikes out against national and democratic interests, government education and the army, the only way to deal with this is by sending a million people to the streets to protest publicly." He even noted that he will be surely be among them.

An additional cry for a civil uprising came from the head of the outgoing government, Lapid, who urged the heads of local governments to refuse to cooperate with the Unit for Planning [etc.] in the Education Ministry. He expressed this in a letter after he reported to the media that MK Avi Maoz, chairman of the Noam party, was expected to receive responsibility in this new government over Jewish subjects to be incorporated in the educational system. "And you will be forced to protect the incorporation of plans in the educational system in your cities," Lapid wrote. As if the public which despised the inclusion of Reform and Christian subjects in the curriculum and giving legitimization to additional subjects had not expressed its stand on this.
