This past Monday morning (23 Sivan/June 12), HaRav Dov Lando landed back in Eretz Yisroel after an intensive journey to America to boost the spirits of Torah students, single and married, who have devoted their lives to pure study, shaking off the many preoccupations of ordinary people. HaRav Lando packed in a full week of shiurim and talks to encourage Jewish communities as well.
At the end of this full week, a helicopter took him directly to a private airport and a plane which would take him home after they davened Mincha.
Before departure, HaRav Lando said to those who had accompanied him on his travels in America, "And return to his usual study..." This was the parting word for his excursion.
Indeed, throughout this week, between one learning session and another, while deep in the profundities of a difficult topic, he would arouse those around him with questions on topics throughout Shas, such as "How can there be impurity which is not permitted in case of the public?"
Then there were questions culled from his work Parpero'os l'Chochma. The airplane was transformed to a veritable stormy beis medrash.
At one point towards the end, Maran suddenly aroused himself and said emotionally, "There are cheder children in Eretz Yisroel and cheder children in America. There are Jewish children in Australia and Jewish children in France. Their languages are different; their lifestyles are different, but all of them study the identical Torah and sing the identical words of 'Toras Hashem temima.'
His words resonated as the plane penetrated the clouds en route to Eretz Yisroel. The flight ended with Tefilas Shacharis on board. When he arrived home, a reading of the Torah was arranged and he was able to recite the Hagomel blessing after a successful journey whose repercussions will continue to echo on.
