In a letter to the "Silent Zionist Majority," outgoing prime minister Bennett prides himself on the government's accomplishments through his leadership on all fronts. More than one article would be needed in order to rebut all his dubious points, and energetic columnists have done so, point by point. These cannot be said to be Netanyahu fans, which is not necessary in order to know that the improvement in the Israeli economy is actually a direct result of the Netanyahu government's policies during Corona pandemic which saved the country from an economic crisis. I am not the one stating this, but, rather, the analyses of economic pundits in newspapers who are far removed from sympathy with Netanyahu.
We will focus on one paragraph, the security related one, in which Bennett boasts, "We changed the government policy against Hamas by 180 degrees! An end to a laid-back policy. We attack in return. We initiate actions against terror everywhere: in Gaza, Samaria and even far from Israeli borders."
They doubled up with laughter in Gaza. Last Shabbos they fired a rocket in the south at Israel, and in response the IDF attacked a Hamas surveillance base on the Gaza border which overlooks the Jewish settlements in the area, a base which is a bone in the throat of the settlers. O.K., so it was bombed, but still remains standing.
As one military reporter wrote: "It seems that even a shower of one hundred rockets against Israel could not have scored a similar achievement to that of Hamas when it was revealed to all what Hamas had succeeded in its attack upon a similar lookout base near the Netiv Ha'asara settlement in the Gaza strip. This attack garnered for it a free and significant intelligence gift without undo effort. Hamas' ridicule was expressed by their immediate rebuilding a more sophisticated base and posting derogatory signs addressed to the Israeli public and its leaders." This actually highlights the total ongoing fiasco of actions against terror organizations in Gaza.
The attack upon the Hamas observation base and their reaction proved again that the more that terror organizations in Gaza grow in numbers and strength due to their success, they actually achieve this thanks or no-thanks to the failing and fumbling policies of government politicians at the high levels.
