Porat Yosef Yeshiva
In wake of the tremendous demand of the Torah public, it has been decided to open each Thursday evening, leil Shishi, the Heichal HaTorah - Kosel Maarovi area near the Kosel square so that the thousands who come to this remnant of the Beis Hamikdash can study Torah in tranquility and clarity without disturbance.
At this place, one can avail oneself of the thousands of volumes of a Torah library on Shas, Rishonim and Acharonim, as well as works on Jewish philosophy and Mussar.
This surprising initiative comes as a result of the huge success experienced on Shavuos when it was decided to create such a palace of study, the Heichal HaTorah - Hakosel Hamaarovi, separate from the distractions and disturbances at the Kosel square itself. It will be situated in Kollel Tzilo shel Heichal, headed by the rov of the Old City, HaRav Avigdor Nebenzahl, and located in the building of Yeshivat Porat Yosef, right next to the Kosel square.
Aside from the study itself in a quiet and spacious place, this innovation serves as a solution to the thousands of chareidim who seek to spend leil Shishi in total study but had no place to do so. According to plan, it will be open from Thursday evening until after Vosikin prayers on Friday morning, supplied with cold and hot drinks throughout.
Actually, plans were made even before Shavuos for the accommodation of thousands of scholars, in preparation of which dozens of new seforim were purchased for the huge Torah library of the Kollel Tzilo shel Heichal. This initiative gained momentum so that even in the days succeeding Shavuos, thousands were able to avail themselves of this quiet, serene, study-conducive hall.
The organizers of this blessed enterprise report movingly of the step that preceded this important act. "The decision was arrived at shortly before Shavuos when we wanted to create a solution for the tens of thousands who sought a quiet place of study not found at the Kosel area itself. Seeing the tremendous success of that one-time event, we decided to make a steady project out of it. Now, in response to the Rav's request, the huge auditorium will be open once a week so that the hundreds who seek such a quiet place will be able to devote their Thursday nights to pure study, far from disruptions yet very near to the Kosel."
