The Power of Prayer
Our people have been experiencing a frenetic period for over a year, says the chief rabbi of Carmiel, HaRav Margolis. At first we thought that it would all be behind us after a month or two, but many are thoughts of man, whereas the counsel of Hashem prevails.
A year has passed since the outbreak of the plague and we are still bleeding. Devout Jews are being buried daily, each precious soul being lost to us amidst great pain. What can we do? Undoubtedly, Hashem is shaking us up terribly and chillingly, with the demise of many, many thousands of sick ones, and no less from the breach in Torah study in the botei medrash and chadorim which have been shut down. It is alarming. Only a deaf person can fail to hear and to willfully ignore it all.
Reparations to Yemenite Families with Missing Children
The government approved this past Monday a principled decision determining a one-time compensation to all the families whose children disappeared in the affair of "the kidnapping of Yemenite children" over seventy years ago. The payment will vary between 150-200 thousand shekel. The plan was presented by PM Netanyahu and Security Minister Benny Ganz and was supported by an overwhelming majority of ministers.
The Degania Dam of the Kinneret will be Opened Soon
The Kinneret water level stood early this week at a minus 209.345 meters. The average recent rise of two centimeters a day as a result of the inflow of streams points to a lack of only another 54.5 cubic centimeters in order for the Kinneret to reach its full capacity at the top red line.
The Miracles of Purim
In honor of Purim, we present these translations and excerpts from HaRav Brevda's world-famous shiurim on Purim, and his best-selling sefer on Megillas Esther and Purim — Kiymu Vekiblu — which has just been reprinted for the fourth time. They provide a deep insight into the underlying lessons of Purim. This was first published in the print edition in 1995, that is 26 years ago. Some of this material was subsequently published as "The Miracles of Purim" by HaRav Brevda.

Challenges of the Modern World: Purim Vanquishes Science

What is a cold world? It is a world of isolation and disconnectedness, a world in which there is nothing that connects different points in space nor different instants in time. Everything is, but it might not be. You might be here and you might not be here. Your friend might be here today but gone tomorrow -- and for no reason. Whatever is gone, is completely finished, dead and done with. Underlying the whole universe is nothing but blind chance. It is all true, but whatever appears alive is only an illusion, a living mask that mimics what life might be like but is really nothing more than cleverly cobbled together chemical and physical processes. Welcome to the world of modern science.
What is a warm world? It is a world of wholeness and unity, a world in which every point is there as part of a plan and every instant is progress towards a goal that was set out in advance. All are part of the plan and all work towards the final goal. You are here because you must be here to fulfill the plan and to advance towards the goal. If you friend is gone tomorrow, it is for the best. Death does not kill the essence and the soul of the person. Underlying the whole universe is a thinking, loving, living G-d. All life is truly animated by sparks that originate in Him. All the complex and wonderful physics and chemistry of the physical world parallel and proclaim the true life force that pulsates throughout the universe, starting from its Divine source, running according to Divine plans and moving steadily to the Divine goal. Welcome to reality.

Amolek: Their Crime and Their Punishment

"Remember what Amolek did to you along the way of your coming out of Mitzrayim. That he encountered you along the way and killed all the weak stragglers trailing behind you -- when you were feeble and weary -- and he did not fear G-d . . . you shall wipe out the memory of Amolek from underneath the heaven; you shall not forget." (Devorim 25:17-29)
The essence of Amolek, what it is and what it represents, is a complex subject. Nonetheless Chazal, beruach kodshom, have given us specific insights designed to help us clearly understand the nature of Amolek and also their sin against HaKodosh Boruch Hu, Klal Yisroel and against the world.
