Morocco Rabbinical Court is Recognized as a State-Sanctioned Institution

The Moroccan government led by its king continues its joint legislative-halachic activity and support, and each year, as well as this past week, an honorary ceremony is held between the Moroccan Minster of Justice and top officials of the legislative system, and dayanim of the Moroccan Beit Din sitting in Casablanca. This year, however, the government decided to publicly reactivate its warm relations with the Jewish community in the country, and for the first time, inaugurated the Beit Din's rabbinical emblem for the Beit Din at the entrance of the royal Supreme Court building in Casablanca.

US Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah Confronts Challenges of Europe

"It starts with shechitah, continues with milah, and then they start to close down Orthodox Jewish schools," so asserted Chief Rabbi of Moscow Pinchas Goldschmidt in addressing a meeting of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of America, the senior rabbinic governing board of Agudath Israel of America.

Rabbi Goldschmidt was appealing to the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah for their, and Agudath Israel's, assistance in galvanizing support to fend off growing challenges to Jewish religious life in Europe. As current President of the Conference of European Rabbis, Rabbi Goldschmidt has been extremely active on all matters pertaining to the rights and well-being of the 1.5 million Jews - 90% of whom affiliate with Orthodoxy - living on the European continent.

Politics is Falsehood Joined with Curses

Opinion & Comment: Jew Hatred

by Rav Alexander Zusha Friedman Hy'd

Introduction

The following article was written by Rav Alexander Zusha Friedman, Hy'd, one of the foremost chareidi writers before and during World War Two, in the course of which he perished. Rav Friedman was an Agudas Yisroel leader and author of Ma'ayono Shel Torah. He analyzes the scourge of antisemitism through the ages with sharpness and clarity, down to his own day. Sadly, his ideas are just as relevant today as when he wrote them.

In the first part, Rav Friedman said that suffering is important and meaningful when we learn the message that it is trying to convey to us from Shomayim. Antisemitism defies human understanding. It seems to stem from contradictory sources: both our weakness and our strength; both our success and our failure. We suffer because we are the heart of the world, and problems show up in us first. Yaakov was given the power of words, and Eisov was given the power of hands. These two are in perpetual conflict.

Abba, It's Important for You to Be Involved!

by Rochel Gil

The involvement of a father is vital to the normal emotional development of a child. It is a formula for success in studies and in developing healthy social interaction.

Rabbis and educators talk about the imperative involvement of a father in education. "It is advisable for the child to see the father studying at home," says R' Simcha Cohen. "He should greet them with a hug and with joy, and should show a genuine, wholehearted interest in them."

"I refuse to accept the excuse of `I have no time,'" says R' Diamant. "It is all a question of priorities. If fathers would only realize what resentments and suffering a child nurses in his heart against a father who ignores his child, they would be swift to change the situation."
