The following was a question and its answer that took place recently.
Hod Kvod Maran Sar HaTorah HaGaon Rabbeinu HaGraCh Kanievsky shlita:
Seeing that this past year, 5780, had brought such major troubles, surely in the spiritual sphere where there was so much time wasted from Torah study, primarily from the Corona where the doors to shuls and botei medrash were locked, causing so much damage to our young men, and also materially, where many men, women and children succumbed to the virus. Who can foresee the outcome of this plague? We find ourselves humbled and trembling before the upcoming Day of Judgment.
Our very lives lie in the balance as we ask Rabbeinu: what resolution can we assume upon ourselves? Rabbenu suggest a way we can merit a good and sweet year where we are spared of all the troubles during the upcoming year 5781.
The answer of Maran Sar HaTorah written in his hand is:
On this eve of the sixth year [i.e. preceding Shmittah], we should study the Rambam the Laws of Shmittah and Yovel each day, whereby we will be spared from all distress.
In addition several clarifying questions and their answers were obtained.
Question: Maran said to daily study the Rambam's laws of Shmittah and Yovel. How much does he suggest to be covered each day?
Answer: Two halochos.
Question: Maran advised that two halochos be studied each day whereby one will be spared from all distress. Once everything has been covered, after several months, what should be studied next?
Answer: It should be learned again from the beginning.
Question: The problem is that most people are not capable of understanding the Rambam. With what commentary should they study?
Answer: Possibly with the sefer "Derech Emunah".
Question: Why does Maran advise precisely the study of Shmittah and Yovel as a means for being blessed with a good year?
Answer: The Chazon Ish said that since it is stated that Moshiach ben Dovid is expected to arrive the year after Shmittah, it is the merit of keeping the laws of shmittah that brings him.
