Many Now Say 10 Tehillim Per Day
by Chaim Honig
The Rosh Yeshiva HaRav Gershon Edelstein, in his weekly shmuess on Erev Succos, conveyed the advice of HaRav Chaim Kanievsky to the general public:
"Under these circumstances, we need prayer as well; we must beseech Heavenly mercy! A person who was once suffering from great pain came to HaRav Chaim, asking for advice. He advised him to recite ten prakim of Tehillim each day, and this counsel truly helped. It can likewise arrest the plague.
"Ten chapters a day is not much, nor is it difficult. If the public were to undertake this earnestly, it may very well stop the pandemic. While HaRav Chaim stated this as a piece of advice to a young man, it may have included a blessing with it, which is why it was effective. By the same token, it can provide merit to the public at large and actually be a way to help it, to halt the plague which is spreading among thousands day by day, even among young healthy people who have succumbed and required hospitalization."
In view of the above, reciting ten chapters of Tehillim a day may prevent the scourge from spreading and bring balm to those already stricken, an idea which was taken up by the Toda'ah organization through their "World Tehillim Line," whereby one can take on the chapters in sequence, by signing up via the phone number: (972) 3-3060010. The Hotline also provides a daily personal telephone reminder.
Director of Toda'ah, HaRav Yisrael Moshe Friedman, notes that the public cry was answered by a tremendous arousal. Tens of thousands of men, women and children have already joined the lists, to complete the recital of thousands of entire Sifrei Tehillim through fervent prayer before the Creator to halt the pandemic which causes so much damage to body and soul. May the A-mighty not reject the prayer of the masses, Amen.
