Rain and Kinneret Watch

by Dei'ah Vedibur Staff

Our weekly report of the rain and the level of the Kineret - 5780.

As of January 2 (5 Teves) 151 millimeters of rain had fallen in the Jerusalem area during the current season (August 1 to date). Just a little rain this past week but now it is raining hard. This represents 85% of the average rainfall for this period and 28% of the average rainfall for the entire season in the Jerusalem area which is 537 mm.

At the end of last week we got a lot of rain. In most of the country the rainfall has caught up with average rainfall for the period. The main rain months are December, January and February, so it is mostly ahead of us.

The current level of the Kinneret is -211.53 meters below sea level, which now less than 3 meters below the full red line of -208.8 meters. It rose a very nice 23 cm. over the past week. Relatively little water is taken out as the bulk of Israel's drinking water comes from desalination. Keep davening.
