HaRav Chaim Kanievsky on Raising Special Children

By Y. Shain

Dozens of special children and hundreds of members of their families attended an outstanding event this past motzei Shabbos Chanukah in the Nof Illit hall, organized by the "Nosnim" association for special children and their families.

A message from HaRav Chaim Kanievsky, Sar HaTorah, was read at the gathering by one of the parents, who introduced it with his words: "Sar HaTorah wishes to state that the privilege of raising children who cope with difficulties is a blessed opportunity to rear pure and wholesome souls of Hashem, souls incapable of sinning. This is why Hashem entrusts these souls to unique people (yechidei segulah) who are chosen for this task. Many zechuyos are earned by the organization Nosnim which assists these children and their parents. Worthy is our mayor, Rav Gutterman, who is very instrumental in helping them; his reward is great indeed."

The event was honored by the participating figures of rabbonim and public persons who came to express their involvement and esteem for the organization and the one who heads it. In the course of the event, the audience gave a rousing welcome to HaRav Shimon Galai who fortified them with his message. "The days of Chanukah teach us that a candle can illuminate the darkness, and even when it is pitch dark, that is, even in very difficult situations, light penetrates and banishes it totally." At the conclusion of his address, he swept up all of the participants into a dance of thanksgiving expressing the joy of Chanukah.
