Israelis Plan to Send a Privately funded Vehicle to the Moon This Year

by Dei'ah Vedibur Staff

For the first time in Israel and perhaps the entire world, a privately-funded group is planning to try to send a satellite to the moon. This project is expected to launch this week.

The vehicle is about the size of a kitchen appliance like a stove or dishwasher. If it is successful, Israel will be only the fifth county to send a proble to the moon. It will be the first time that anyone has attempted to do with with only private support.

The launch is scheduled for February 16. It is scheduled to be borne aloft on a SpaceX booster. There are no plans to bring it back to Earth.
