Visit Only Shomer Shabbos Sites on Outings

By Yechiel Sever

In anticipation of the various educational institutions, resort areas, camps and day camps which will seek places of recreation this summer, the members of the Vaad HaRabbonim for Kedushas HaShabbos, established and under the aegis of our Torah leaders, have issued a public awareness call to assure that visits be made only to recreational areas which are Shomer Shabbos.

"When, in these days we raise our hands in fighting for the sake of Shabbos observance, this is a battle for the preservation of Yiddishkeit and we must not remain silent. We must be actively involved to the utmost of our ability to raise the banner of Shabbos."

HaRav Chaim Kanievsky ruled very emphatically that "whoever visits sites that desecrate Shabbos is causing a chillul Hashem and is an accomplice to chillul Shabbos. Parents must be on guard and firmly forbid their children to visit such sites. Whoever is instrumental in organizing trips to attractions which violate Shabbos is guilty of sinning and abetting the sinning of the public, and his punishment is very severe."

The Rosh Yeshiva, HaRav Gershon Eidelstein, expressed his pain: "When one finds himself in the environment of sinners, it has an effect of diminishing sanctity, which applies to those who visits sites that are mechallel Shabbos. It causes a decline in spirituality and sanctity, besides which it is also a chillul Hashem. Conversely, if one visits only places which preserve Shabbos, this is a Kiddush Hashem."
