Gatherings in Memory of Maran HaRav Aharon Yehuda Leib Shteinman, zt"l

Gatherings and hespedim continued around the world within the Torah commounity over the loss of HaRav Aharon Yehuda Leib Shteinman, zt"l, who passed away on 24 Kislev at the age of 104. We published a summary of his life on parshas Mikeitz. This week we present some selected excerpts of the many speeches given by the Torah leaders of our generation, giving us some appreciation and perspective about the great loss that we suffered.

Agudath Israel Kinus Hisorerus about HaRav Shteinman zt"l's Legacy

Hundreds, including scores of leading Roshei Yeshiva and Rabbanim, braved the frigid cold on Sunday evening 13 Teves, December 13, to attend a Kinus Hisorerus VeHesped following the recent petirah of Hagaon HaRav Aharon Yehuda Leib Shteinman zt"l. The Kinus was sponsored by Agudath Israel of America and held in the Novominsker Yeshiva in Boro Park, whose cavernous Bais Medrash was filled to capacity. In addition, countless others participated in the Kinus at satellite locations across the country, or from their homes via phone or LiveStream.

Maran always insisted that when one seeks to arouse those who must use the Internet for their livelihood, they must insist only on the use of a certified screened version. Nevertheless, one should not relate to it as `kosher' because even if it is not treife, it still constitutes a threat and stumbling block and one must dissuade its use from those who do not absolutely need it.

A historic turnout at Agudath Israel of America’s Yerushalayim Yarchei Kallah is expected, with a record 500 participants registered for the annual Torah gathering. Now in its 18th year, the Yerushalayim Yarchei Kallah was warmly endorsed by Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman zt"l in 2000, its first year, during the second intifada and is a project of the Agudah’s Torah Projects Commission.

The Power of Resolution: A Shmuess for Parshas Shemos

By HaRav Sholom Schwadron zt'l

The Seeds of Redemption

"And these are the names of bnei Yisroel who came to Egypt . . . " (Shemos 1:1). Rashi explains that although the sons of Yaakov have already been enumerated in parshas Vayigash with events that took place in their lifetimes, the posuk enumerates them again here with events that took place after they had died, to make known how deeply Hashem cherished them. What needs to be understood though, is why the names of Yaakov's sons are mentioned here, at the very beginning of the enslavement.

Those In Chariots and Those On Horses

by L. Jungerman

The Egyptian exile was a cornerstone in the foundation of the Jewish nation, a stone which the `builders despised,' originally, but which turned out, at the end of the process, to be a foundation stone.
