Advice from HaRav Chaim Kanievsky for Bein Hazmanim

The Bein Hazmanim period requires an extra measure of "Torah protects and saves." These were the emphatic words of HaRav Chaim Kanievsky in a message he delivered to the rabbonim of Orchos Yosher headed by his devoted grandson, HaRav Arye Kanievsky, in a gathering at his home. Upon this occasion, they presented to him the sixth annual Orchos Yosher Torah journal.

Eretz Yisroel is Acquired Through Yisurim

We are in the midst of that period of the year which has been historically difficult for our people. Below, we focus on a space of suffering, a trying period for the residents of Eretz Yisroel two centuries ago. While the suffering spans months and years, in reading about it, we are able to empathize in general with the hardships that often accompanies settling in Eretz Yisroel, and makes living here all the more precious and well earned.


From Bein HaMeitzorim to Bein HaZemanim

The period between Shivah Asar BeTammuz until after Tishah B'Av during which we observe minhogim of aveilus is called by Chazal in the beginning of Midrash Eichah, "the days of bein hameitzorim," based on the posuk "All her persecutors overtook her bein hameitzorim" (Eichah 1:3).
