"Our Torah Leader is in Danger!"

By Yechiel Sever

"We find ourselves in a situation where the leader of the generation is in danger and we must intensify our prayers." These poignant words were cried out in pain by HaRav Moshe Hillel Hirsch, Rosh Yeshivas Slobodka and member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah, in his great effort to arouse the hearts towards an individual sense of obligation to pierce the gates of Heaven in prayer and to increase toil in Torah study for the recovery of HaRav Aharon Yehuda Leib ben Gittel Feiga Shteinman.

His speech, taking place in the beis medrash of Yeshivas Beis Shmuel, was joined by the Rosh Yeshiva and Rav of Kiryat Mattersdorf, Jerusalem, HaRav Yitzchok Ehrenfeld, who also fervently urged the audience of their duty at this critical time, said: "We must understand how vital it is for him to be amongst us. Without his wisdom and his weighty decision-making, we cannot imagine how we will be able to continue. We must therefore reinforce our prayers and internalize the realization that this is what can help. Similarly, we must fortify our personal avodas Hashem.

"The Rosh Yeshiva, leader of our generation in our midst, is the essence of Heavenly glory, in all of his thoughts and actions, and he is the one who channels Heavenly assistance and closeness to Hashem because of his purity in every step he takes. G-d forbid that we miss out on the siyata deShmaya which we enjoy because of him. Therefore, we must reinforce our prayers that his blessed Heavenly glory remain in our midst. May Hashem help that our prayers be answered and that in the merit of our strengthening and our drawing closer to Him we will be blessed with a full speedy recovery of Maran R' Aharon Yehuda Leib ben Gittel Feiga."
