Apartment Contracts in Israel Must Include Heter Iska

The Housing Ministry has announced, in reply to a request by MK Rabbi Yaakov Asher, an amendment to the uniform contracts made between contractors and apartment buyers which fall under the framework of the "Mechir Lamishtaken" purchase contracts, that these include a clause of a halachically proper Heter Iska. This program involves special auctions of land for building in which contractors compete by offering the best Mechir Lamishtaken, meaning the lowest price to the buyer. Telolei Oros presents sources relating to doctors and patients. May it be Hashem's will that the verse be fulfilled in us: "The entire malady that I inflicted upon Egypt I will not inflict upon you, for I am Hashem your Healer" (Shemos 15:26).

Selling Holiness to a Jaded World

by Mordecai Plaut

Just as Israel's (and Lebanon's) tourist industry was beginning to get back onto its feet after a multi-year slump, the war in Lebanon last summer set it back. The fighting caused wholesale cancellations, and the Ministry of Tourism was worried about the industry it is charged with promoting. Things have recovered since the depths of the fighting, but the Ministry wants to do better.
