Apartment Contracts in Israel Must Include Heter Iska


The Housing Ministry has announced, in reply to a request by MK Rabbi Yaakov Asher, an amendment to the uniform contracts made between contractors and apartment buyers which fall under the framework of the "Mechir Lamishtaken" purchase contracts, that these include a clause of a halachically proper Heter Iska. This program involves special auctions of land for building in which contractors compete by offering the best Mechir Lamishtaken, meaning the lowest price to the buyer. Typically these attractively-priced apartments are given out by lottery since there is more demand than supply.

HaRav Mordechai Goldstein zt"l

A large crowd of roshei yeshiva and Torah disseminators, together with many hundreds of his students, accompanied to his final rest this past Friday afternoon, erev Shabbos Toldos 2 Kislev, HaRav Mordechai Goldstein zt"l. Rosh Yeshivas Hatefutzos on Har Zion, Jerusalem, for the past fifty years and author of "Imrei Mordechai" on Shas, HaRav Goldstein was one of the most significant Kiruv figures in our times. He passed away after a brief illness at the age of 84.

The fighting caused wholesale cancellations, and the Ministry of Tourism was worried about the industry it is charged with promoting. Things have recovered since the depths of the fighting, but the Ministry wants to do better.
