Preparation for the Upcoming Convention of Communal Activists About Bein Hazmanim

By Yechiel Sever

Excitement and high powered anticipation among all communal activists is felt these days regarding the various structures and programs for yeshiva students during the upcoming bein hazmanim which will be main topic of an upcoming nationwide convention, the first of its kind. This convention, under the encouragement and guidance of Torah leadership, including HaRav Boruch Mordechai Ezrachi, HaRav Moshe Hillel Hirsch and HaRav David Cohen, is scheduled to take place this Sunday at the Tzipori BaKfar Hotel in Kibbutz Chofetz Chaim. Its agenda is to discuss the ways to morally boost the sector of yeshiva students during the critical period of bein hazmanim.

HaRav Hirsch expressed his opinion to the communal heads of the importance and obligation to support and encourage the various local study programs during bein hazmanim, and to increase and upgrade Torah toil and study. He dwelled at length about the educational importance of maintaining rapport with the avreichim of the various communities.

HaRav Dovid Cohen said, "In our times, when the street is so low and the technology embraces us in its arms of destruction that even spread among us, the bnei Torah, we must develop educational programs. It is vitally important to do so in two areas: 1] During the bein hazmanim which is a dangerous time since leaving the beis hamedrash exposes young people to alien influences and we cannot hope to keep them safe unless we develop programs appropriate to bein hazmanim that preserve their spiritual level. 2] Activities throughout the year to strengthen our young people and to keep their spirits up. There is nothing so dangerous as when a young person falls into despair and uncertainty as to his path. It is essential for us to be active the year round in order to combat the dangers of the street."
