Degrading Storage at Hebrew University

"It is inconceivable that human bones and skeletons lie shamefully defiled in storage boxes in the basements and vaults of the Hebrew University, without the least Jewish sensitivity, and total humiliation of the dignity of the dead." These were the words of the deputy Knesset Chairman Rabbi Uri Maklev, in light of the harsh reports being revealed these past weeks to his office and the office of MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni, depicting a sorry state of human remains lying shamefully in the vaults and basements of the Hebrew University.

In honor of his yahrtzeit, 4 Kislev 5638

Erev Yom Kippur in the Jewish communities of once-upon-a-time Poland was kept much as it is now as well. Wherever there are Yidden, the day shares the awesome atmosphere of the coming holy day. Eating and drinking also take a great part in the preparation for Yom Kippur. In Poland it was customary to drink a strong mead which, although it could induce drunkenness, was reputed to give strength for the upcoming fast.

by Mordecai Plaut

We always talk about framing our view of the world in moral terms, and the passing of Yasser Arafat has given us a chance to show a very clear example of this. For many years the Israeli government discussed getting rid of Yasser Arafat. The government ministers openly discussed killing him or exiling him. Outside powers knew of these debates and publicly warned against them.

Oops! The CBS Goofed: Chareidi Schools Do Not Get Twice as Much Money! Admission refutes three months of vicious criticism. Teachers' salaries were included in the chareidi school numbers but not in the other schools' budget figures.

By Betzalel Kahn and M Plaut

The Government Statistician Prof. Shlomo Yitzchaki admitted that the Central Bureau for Statistics (CBS) released incorrect data regarding the chareidi education budget. In a letter to Degel HaTorah Secretary MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni he admitted that the funding figures for the chareidi institutions were very high because they included teacher salaries, while salaries were not included in the general education system figures.

Chapters in the Memoirs of Rabbi Shlomo Lorincz, Shlita

An Introduction This article is the first in a series of chapters of the memoirs of one who, for many decades, was an esteemed representative of Gedolei Hador in the battle for all that chareidi Judaisim stood for. He stood firm throughout the stormy political times, on the frontlines of those battles, and engaged in lobbying and intercession in the more peaceful times.
