Prime Minister Removes Conversion Law from Consideration

by Yechiel Sever

Prime minister Netanyahu has removed the proposed Conversion Law from the agenda of the weekly Cabinet meeting, and said that he would defeat the law if it were proposed privately.

The Conversion Law was promoted by Minster of Justice Tzippy Livni and MK Elazar Stern. However Netanyahu has delayed its proposal, after the MKs from UTJ made it clear that the cost of the law would be a final break with the chareidi community. The prime minister said that with all the threats there are to the continuation of the current government, it is not a good time to break with the chareidi community.
