Sephardic Gedolim: "Do Not Rely on the Heter Mechirah!"

With the ushering in of Shmittah 5775, the Sephardi gedolim issued a call and stringent halachic ruling against depending on the Heter Mechirah, calling for people not to rely on it whatsoever.

75% of Settlement Budgets go to Bayit Yehudi

The government Knesset Comptroller Committee dealt this past Monday with the budget for the Settlement Budget of the World Zionist Organization in Israel. The committee chairman, MK Rabbi Amnon Cohen (Shas), demanded that the Comptroller examine the charge that 75% of the support for settlement organizations is transferred to bodies identified with Habayit Hayehudi, contrary to the real interests of such a budget, amidst duplication and blatant favoritism.

Chizuk Gathering With Gedolei Yisroel and Members of Vaad Hayeshivos

An exalted atmosphere was felt at the recent historic meeting of gedolei Yisrael and members of the Vaad Hayeshivos at the home of HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman for the purpose of fortifying the Torah world in its pure form. Long before the actual meeting, intense preparations vitalized the public, which gathered outside the area. Renowned rabbonim arrived one after another to join in assuming protective vigil for the yeshivos.

"We must Strengthen the Shearis Yisroel Kashrus Network, Especially During Shmittah"

Roshei yeshiva, rabbonim, community heads and morei horo'oh and dayanim in Bnei Brak gathered at the home of HaRav Yitzchok Zilberstein, member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah, Rav of Ramat Elchonon and son-in-law of HaRav Eliashiv, this past motzei Shabbos to reinforce the excellent kashrus supervision of Shearis Yisrael, especially now at the beginning of Shmittah, when this supervisory organization is very stringent in keeping all of the fine points of Halacha according to the guidelines of the Chazon Ish.

Bein Odom Lechavero and the Battles for Hashem

Based on the works of Maran HaRav Elozor Menachem Shach, zt"l

The approach of Maran R' Shach ztvk'l to communal matters was not uniform, but composed of different parts and aspects which were, sometimes, even extremely contradictory. Therefore, there are two prerequisites necessary in order for one to properly focus on the lessons to be derived from his practices: a readiness to study them in depth, and the wisdom and understanding with which to interpret those lessons.

Media Bias Against Orthodox Jews

by Rabbi Avi Shafran

Journalists are human. Like all of us, they harbor preconceptions and biases, which can unconsciously come to inform their judgment -- and even their reportage. And it's no less so in the world of Jewish media, perhaps most evident in the treatment of chareidi or, as commonly rendered, "ultra-Orthodox" Jews.
