Chinuch Atzmai Emergency Transportation Fund Campaign

By Yechiel Sever

A very moving and rare prayer event took place at the gravesite of Rabi Shimon bar Yochai in Meron for the sake of students of the Chinuch Atzmai school network. It was attended by the Mashgichim HaRav Dov Yaffe; HaRav Uri Weisblum and HaRav Chizkiya Mishkovsky, with the added participation of the Secretary General of Chinuch Atzmai, Rabbi Tzvi Baumel and other heads of Chinuch Atzmai, heads of the Transportation Fund, Rabbi Mordechai Karelitz, Rabbi Avrohom Rubinstein and principals of Chinuch Atzmai. schools from all over the country. In a heartbreaking cry, they prayed for the continued operation of this vital service so that Jewish children living in the periphery and in remote places could receive a pure Torah education and not be forced to attend schools of questionable credentials. They prayed fervently on behalf of those who have lent their support to the Fund, enabling tens of thousands of children to continue receiving the proper education in the spirit of "Yisroel Sabba" in this present and the upcoming school year.

Due to extenuating financial difficulties of the Transportation Fund in this present school year and the fear of its discontinuation in the coming year which can have severe spiritual repercussions, threatening the continued operation of many schools dependent upon the size of its student body, and having implication upon thousands of additional students, it was further decided by the heads of Chinuch Atzmai and heads of the Transportation Fund to meet in the home of HaRav Shteinman to receive his blessing and council regarding future measures to save the Jewish children in question. With the Rosh Yeshiva's directive, it was thus decided to hold the said prayer event in Meron on the eve of Lag B'Omer. He also advised them as to which particular Pirkei Tehillim to recite.
