The Atzeres in Jerusalem: Tremendous Kiddush Hashem

The fabulous Kiddush Hashem that took place was indescribable and its ripples were felt from one end of the world to the other. It was accompanied by a marvelous feeling of "His heart was exalted in the ways of Hashem" which gripped every single Jew throughout the globe in the wake of the rare and historic Prayer Rally that took place this past Sunday at the gateway to Yerushalayim. Indeed, there has been nothing comparable throughout the generations, ever since the Churban Beis Hamikdash. This heart-shaking event in which 800,000 men, women and children participated, together with hundreds of thousands more spectators who watched this event throughout the world and those who were left stranded en route, was a fascinating stand-up supporting occasion for the honor of Torah and its scholars, lending an exalted sensation of privileged participation in this Kiddush Hashem throughout the entire world.

American Gedolim Issue Call for Atzeres Tefillah on Sunday

At the request of Gedolim in Eretz Yisroel, American manhigei hador have asked that Jews join in a large tefillah- gathering on Water Street in lower Manhattan this Sunday, 7 Adar Sheini (March 9) beginning at 2:00 p.m. A Kol Korei signed by dozens of prominent Admorim, Roshei Yeshiva and Rabbonim representing a broad spectrum of the chareidi tzibbur, urging attendance at this massive Atzeres, was released.

Decisions of the Atzeres

The decisions of the historic prayer rally were read aloud in a very emotional voice at the end of the Atzeres by Rabbi Yeshayohu Lieberman, as follows:

In the presence of the leaders and beacons of our generation and the myriads of Jews gathered here, heads and members of our people together, to pray, be aroused and make a Kiddush Hashem, we hereby declare a mass protest regarding the rebellion against the Kingship of Hashem and the edict of army service for yeshiva and kollel students, the intent of which is to eradicate the Torah R"l and to impose upon full- time Torah scholars criminal charges to the extent of putting them behind bars. Therefore does this rally publicly affirm:

Avreich Who Refused to Ride on Shabbos Tasered

Secular neighbors of a chareidi family in Petach Tikva summoned the police in the wake of an argument which erupted between the families on Shabbos. A patrol car arrived and one of the policemen ordered the chareidi family head to accompany them to police headquarters.

Gatherings Around the World

Concurrent to the mass gathering of hundreds of thousands of men, women and children in Jerusalem to cry out and denounce the harsh decrees against the Torah world, and in response to the call of unified Torah leaders, thousands of Jews gathered similarly in London to protest and pray to the Creator through reciting Tehillim for the salvation of their brethren in Eretz Yisroel.

On erev Shabbos parshas Vayakheil, the twenty-eighth of Adar 5703 (1943), just about 61 years ago, dreadful news reached Shanghai about the catastrophic events that had befallen Lithuanian Jewry. The parents and families of the bnei hayeshiva who had remained in their homes in Lithuania after their sons escaped, had been butchered in the most brutal and savage ways by the German invaders and the Lithuanian country folk who willingly assisted them. Hitherto, Shanghai had been almost cut off from the rest of the world and no word of what had taken place long before had arrived.
