Elul Zman Begins in the Yeshivas

Tens of thousands of bnei hayeshivos returned to their beloved botei medrash on Rosh Chodesh Elul to begin the countdown to the Yomim Noraim. This year the bein hazmanim break was clouded by the threats to the chareidi community from the sitting Israeli government, and many heeded the call of the gedolim to increase their learning during the break.

Mohalim Union Founded in Europe

The Conference of European Rabbis announced the founding of the Union of Mohalim in Europe (UME). The Union will bring together certified mohalim from all over Europe to ensure that milah is performed to the highest medical and halachic standards. The new organization will be an independent legal entity registered in Austria and will be under the supervision of HaRav Chanoch Hacohen Ehrentreu, the av beis din of Europe.

Yated Ne'eman the Chareidi Publication with the Greatest Exposure

In the results of the TGI survey of chareidi print media, Yated Ne'eman was in the lead in most areas. The TGI survey is the most widely followed study of the marketing success of all mass media in Israel. The metric studied is "exposure" and not circulation since the advent of freely distributed publications has made paid circulation a marginal number. The survey studies the exposure to the entire population of the various publications under consideration. The study covers the year July 2012 through June 2013, and it rates Hebrew language publications in Israel.

Beitar Illit and Charish Dropped from National Preferential Areas

A new list published of Areas of National Preference dropped the chareidi city Beitar Illit and the city-in-construction Charish, that had been included in the list in past years. Added to the list were a number of small settlements, some in isolated areas that may be given to Palestinians in a negotiated settlement. Most of the included settlements are identified with government coalition partner Habayit HaYehudi.
