Shabbos Commemoration in Many Places Urging the Public to Follow His Practices

by Yechiel Sever

This coming Shabbos, the 28th of Tammuz, on the yahrtzeit of HaRav Yosef Shalom Eliashiv, rabbonim and Torah leaders in every Jewish congregation throughout Eretz Yisroel and the entire world are expected to evoke his holy memory and exhort the people to carry on his holy practices and customs, as he followed and taught all his life.

Torah leaders, rabbinical figures, roshei yeshivos and communal rabbonim will highlight lessons of his teachings and practices, his incredible adherence to toil in Torah, his leadership, his dispensing of Halacha, his pure Torah hashkofoh, and the public's obligation to continue to strengthen itself more and more in light of the spiritual vacuum gaping before us in this generation with the eclipse of his leading beacon of light.

Many people made resolutions regarding study on Fridays and Shabbosim for the exaltation of his pure soul. A special gathering is scheduled for Shabbos in his favored Beis Medrash, Tiferes Bochurim, at five p.m., presided over by his sons, sons-in-law and his disciples. Minchah is scheduled for 4:30 p.m., after which the regular study session will take place, followed by addresses given by the abovementioned.

The widespread Avos uBonim study programs taking place everywhere will be dedicated to the escalation of his pure soul, since throughout his life he devoted himself to the pure chinuch of Jewish children. Prayers will be said in the hope that all the reinforcing measures which the public has taken upon itself will hasten the Ultimate Redemption and rescind the harsh and terrible decrees suspended over us for indeed, throughout his lifetime, Rabbenu sacrificed himself to uphold those pure measures and practices and to preserve the pure study of bnei yeshivos according to time-worn tradition, through purity of our holy flocks.
