Acknowledging the Danger is the Hope for Salvation

Editorial of the Hebrew Yated Ne'eman

The political maze seems to have no way out. It seems that Neyanyahu's only choice is complete capitulation to the demands of Bennet and Lapid, the central one of which is to draft the bnei yeshivos, or else give up his efforts entirely to form a government.

Never before, not in the recent or distant past, has there been such a dire threat to the Torah world, causing the Torah leadership to come out so strongly and unswervingly in self-defense. The feeling is that this issue is a decree so harsh as to threaten the very existence of the Torah world, demanding a very firm stand, like a stone wall, and brooking no suggestion of compromise since there is nothing we can concede to, no suggestion where we can give an inch or even sacrifice a single ben Torah. Just as Lapid and Bennet are unwilling to give in at all, so are we even more determined to maintain our stance.

It is incredible that in the Jewish State, the Torah-true public should have to assemble and fight for its rights, to shout and protest for our very lives, and to pray that Torah not be uprooted from Jewry. Perhaps some elements are not surprised, after all, since the fact that this issue never reached such an extreme situation does not mean that it wouldn't have happened eventually, knowing that from its inception, that the very basis of the Zionist movement was to eradicate Torah from the Jewish people, as our past gedolim have often stated.
