In a 6-3 vote, High Court judges accepted Tuesday evening a contentious petition against the Draft Deferral Law for yeshiva students, saying it would expire this August and would not be renewed.


HaRav Kanievsky: No Writing Chidushei Torah Using Computer Without Internet Blocking

HaRav Chaim Kanievsky shlita issued a ruling this week that "the use of a computer that is not blocked in accordance with the directives, and one who writes chidushei Torah on a computer that is not severed and blocked in this manner from the Internet is engaging in a `mitzvah habo'oh be'aveiroh,'" he said during a special gathering at his home to discuss the issue.


Mass Prayers for the Health of the Rav of All Yisroel

On erev Rosh Chodesh there were mass prayers all over the Jewish world during the Yom Kippur Kotton prayers with additional Tehillim to arouse Heavenly mercy for the health of the Rav of All Yisroel, Rabbeinu Yosef Sholom ben Chaya Musha Eliashiv shlita. The entire Beis Yisroel leans upon him and he is still in a difficult medical state.


Tel Aviv City Council Backs Move to Run Public Transportation on Shabbos

The Tel Aviv-Jaffa City Council passed a proposal to operate public transportation on Shabbos Kodesh. The disgraceful decision must be approved by the Transportation Ministry, which later announced that it would not lend a hand in upsetting the status quo. Therefore the decision of the Tel Aviv City Council was essentially a populist, vote-getting gesture with no substance.


Shas Collaborates with NRP in Petach Tikva

Rabbonim and public figures in and around Petach Tikva have voiced stiff opposition to a move by Shas to support the appointment to the city rabbinate of a rabbi from Zionist national-religious circles in exchange for their support of a Sephardic rabbi, striking a deathblow in terms of the ramifications for religious affairs in the city in the next elections.


`Death to the Jews' Chants in Tunis During Cleric Visit

Last week Egyptian Sheikh Wajdi Ghonim, during a visit to Tunis, addressed an audience of 7,000 gathered at a stadium located in one of the Tunisian capital's poorest neighborhoods. The Muslim audience shouted antisemitic slurs, such as "death to the Jews" and "the Messiah's legion has set out."
