Over 8,200 Body Parts at Abu Kabir Denied Proper Burial

By Eliezer Rauchberger

Over 8,200 body parts have not been properly buried, the Health Ministry reported during a meeting the Knesset Constitution Committee held this week to review the matter.

The meeting was initiated by MK Rabbi Uri Maklev, MK Rachel Adatto (Kadima) and MK Avraham Michaeli (Shas), following an investigative report in Yediot Acharonot that revealed that the forensics institute keeps body parts for years.

During the course of the meeting, a Health Ministry representative reported that since the year 2000 Abu Kabir has stored tissues and organs of 8,288 bodies that were autopsied at the institute.
