Romanian Jews Upset: A Holocaust Denier Appointed to the Cabinet

by Y Sheinfeld

The Jewish community of Romania is very upset over the decision to appoint Senator Dr. Don Shovah as the Cabinet officer in charge of liaison with the Parliament. The Senator recently declared in a media interview, "Not one Jew suffered on Romanian soil."

Relating to the famous pogrom in the capital city of Yasi in 1941, where some 15,000 Jews were murdered, the Senator commented, "Only 24 Jews were killed by German soldiers." Shuva who served as one of the prominent spokesmen of his party, was previously fired from his post. His party sent him to Washington on an educational visit to the Holocaust Museum. Subsequently, Shuva publicized an announcement expressing regret that he was misunderstood, but he refused to apologize for his words, notwithstanding.
